My name is Rae Norton and I am currently the Reading Specialist at Bearuregard Elementary School.  I began my teaching career in 1993 as a Kindergarten teacher in Russell County.  In the year 2000, I was hired at Smiths Station Primary School, where I continued to teach Kindergarten for a total of 13 years.  In 2006, I looped with my kindergarten class and began teaching first grade.  I finished my classroom experience with an additiional seven years in first grade and three more years in third grade.

I am concidered to be a Highly Qualified Teacher in my field.  I received my Bachelor degree from Auburn University in Early childhood Development in 1990, my Masters degree in Elementary Education from Troy University in 2001, and my Elementary Specialist degree with an add on Specialist of Elementary Mathematics degree from Auburn University in 2014.  Needless to say I am a huge Auburn fan!  War Eagle!

I have two children and a wonderful husband. My husband, Donnie, is an Account Executive with the Kellogg Company where he has been employed for the last 28 years.   My daughter Haylie, will graduate in 2018 as a Registered Nurse, and she graduated from SSHS.  My son Grey, was a member of the 2015 Smiths Station Baseball Team that won the first ever 7A State Baseball Championship and he  will (if all goes as planned) graduate from Auburn University in 2019 with a degree in Business specializing in Supply Chain Managemnet.  We are very proud of both of our children!!!!

My husband and I enjoy watching Auburn football, riding our bikes and we have recently picked up the hobby of kayaking!
