Welcome to the exciting and sometimes nerve-racking world of Driver Education. I am excited about a new school year and a new group of young adults. Driving is a lifelong activity and something I take seriously, as one day the young adults I will be teaching will be sharing the road with me and my family.
A little about me:
I have had the privilege of coaching and teaching in the Smiths Station community for the last 18 years. I started in 2006 teaching Physical Education at Smiths Station Elementary, now known as East Smiths Station Elementary. I spent 7 great years there as part of a special group of teachers and administrators. In 2014, I was blessed by being named the Head Baseball Coach and moved to High School to teach Driver Education. I retired from coaching baseball after the 2024 season. It was a fun transition and has been 11 years of great experiences, some of which raised my blood pressure. I enjoy being part of a process that students look forward to (getting their license and gaining independence and freedom).
I grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and attended Tuscaloosa Central High School. I played 3 sports in high school and was fortunate that it led to an athletic scholarship to play baseball at Auburn University. One of the best decisions I ever made. Again, I was fortunate to be good enough to be drafted in the 4th round of the MLB draft after my junior year and signed a professional contract to play with the Cincinnati Reds organization in 1990. I spent the next 7 years doing that while also trying to finish my education.
I have been married to my wife Cindy for 31 years and have 2 children (Ryan, 27, and Tatum, 25).
