School counselors design and deliver Comprehensive School Counseling Programs in three critical areas:  academic development, personal/social development, and career development.  These three areas, which promote student achievement, are designed to help students resolve emotional, social, and/or behavioral problems, and they also help students develop a clearer focus and/or sense of direction.

Comprehensive in scope, preventive in design, and developmental in nature, the School Guidance and Counseling Program in the Lee County School District follows both the American School Counselor Association's {ASCA} National Model:  A Framework for School Counseling Programs and the Comprehensive Counseling and the Guidance State Model for Alabama Public Schools.

The School Counseling Program is implemented and delivered in all Lee County Schools by certified professional school counselors with the support of administrators, teachers, students, parents, and other community stakeholders.

The individual planning component of the Comprehensive School Counseling Program includes activities that provide every student with an opportunity to practice, plan, monitor, and manage their academic, personal/social, and career development.

A portion of the school counselor’s day is spent on responsive services.  These services include counseling services and/or referrals to meet the immediate needs and concerns of students and parents/legal guardians.  Responsive services include individual and/or small group counseling, problem solving, agency referrals, and consultation.

System support includes indirect guidance management activities that maintain and enhance the total school counseling and guidance program.  Responsibilities in this component include staff training and relations, community relations, professional development, testing coordination, test interpretation, data analysis, and curriculum development, response to intervention/problem solving teams, and  school leadership team.

A Comprehensive School Counseling Program is an integral component of the school’s academic mission.  Comprehensive School Counseling Programs are driven by student data and based on standards in academic development, personal/social development, and career development, that will promote and enhance the learning opportunities and process for all students.

    Services provided include:

    • Classroom Guidance
    • Small Group Counseling
