Mr. Steve Benton
My name is Steve Benton and I am happy to be starting my first year with Lee County Schools at LC2. I have just finished my 20th year as an educator. All of those were in the middle grades (6th, 7th and 8th grade Social Studies), but helping high school students achieve their goals has been a dream of mine for a while, and I am excited to finally have the opportunity.
I obtained my undergraduate degree from Auburn University and, after 7 years in the military, I received a Masters in Education from the University of Montevallo. I am a proud veteran of the United States Army and served in the First Gulf War in 1990-91. My time in the military continues to influence my life and teaching.
My family is another source of pride. I have two grown children. My son, Steven, lives in Dallas, and my daughter, Katy, lives here in the Aurburn/Opelika area. I also have a grandson, Tyler, who provides countless hours of joy and activity for me.
Outside of school, I enjoy many outdoor and fitness activities; fly fishing, hiking, camping , and golf. I also enjoy cooking, and am an avid reader when time permits.
I love the Auburn/Opelika and Lee County communities. It has always felt like home here, whether attending Auburn university in my undergraduate years, coming to football games throughout my life, or visit9ing both my children when they attended Auburn. I am glad to finally call this area my home now. I am excited about starting this new chapter in my teaching career and life and look forward to assisting LC2 students in accomplishing their goals and becoming productive citizens to better our community and the world.
