My name is Kara Downs, and I am so excited to be at Smiths Station High School. I teach History 10 through our dual enrollment program with Chattahoochee Valley Community College. This is my first year at Smiths Station, but my fourth year in education. I graduated from Auburn University in 2021 with my bachelor’s degree in Social Science Secondary Education. After graduating, I taught 7th grade social studies at Phenix City Schools for two years. I then moved to Beulah High School and taught the Education and Training Pathway in Career Tech. In December 2023, I graduated from the University of West Alabama with my master’s in Social Science Secondary Education. I’m a big fan of Coke Zero, Auburn University sports, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. I am so excited to get to know all of my students and help them succeed in and out of the classroom. In my class, we will use Schoology and Canvas. Canvas is the platform that CVCC uses for content and courses. We will use Schoology until Canvas is opened each semester.
