Welcome back to the 2023-2024 school year! I am looking forward to my first year as a Hornet. I am one of the special education teachers that serve the 7th & 8th grade. I am excited to work with your children to achieve their goals this school year. Within Special Education this year we will focus our enrichment time on achieving specific student-based goals for Math, English, behavior and social skills. There will be substantial focus on developing educational goals, vocational goals, communication skills, transition goals, as well as appropriate social skills.
I currently reside in Opelika, and I have enjoyed getting to know the history that this part of Alabama is filled with. I have three adult children and one granddaughter. When I am not cheering for the Hornets, Tigers (AU) or the SEC, I enjoy reading, practicing yoga and being outside, especially with my dog Toby. To access all learning styles, I incorporate various forms of technology, learning centers, manipulatives, group work, and independent learning to teach new concepts and materials.
It is my goal that each student leaves their time in middle school confident that they can achieve great feats. The content and skills learned during their time at SMS will highly prepare them for high school. Go HORNETS!!
