Mrs. Amanda Mitchell
Hello! Ciao! Bonjour! Hallo! Kia Ora! G'Day Mate!
My name is Amanda Mitchell, and I currently teach English 9 as well as Literature, Mythology, and Fables at SSFC. Before moving to Alabama, I taught English as well as Journalistic Writing and Publishing at Leilehua High School in Wahiawa, Hawaii. In addition to teaching, I also sponsor the Travel Club and enjoy taking kids around the world (literally!) during the summer! Learning does not just take place within the walls of a school building!
I grew up in Pleasanton, Texas, a tiny town 30 minutes south of San Antonio, but spent 22 years traveling the world, courtesy of the U.S. Army, with my husband, Joey, and our three kids, Greg, Lexi, and Chris, until my husband retired six years ago. Teaching was not my first career choice, but after moving to Hawaii in 2005, I felt called to make a dramatic change in my career path, so I went back to graduate school to earn my teaching credentials and haven't looked back since! I am a very hands-on, involved teacher, and I believe in the power of honesty and mutual respect between and with all individuals in my classroom.
If you have any questions or concerns about your student's performance in class, I am more than happy to talk to you! As a parent, I understand that some issues need a quick resolution, so I will do my best to contact you that day - typically before 9 pm EST. I prefer to email, but am more than happy to call and talk as well. I look forward to knowing not only your student but working with you this year as well!
